Corie Feiner is at it again! Inspiring us to embrace the bodies we live in!
How the Bodylove Poetry Writing Workshop works…
We practice breath and bodywork; give ourselves presence and acceptance of our bodies; read body-based poems, learn solid poetry craft skills, and receive generative writing prompts, sacred and supported writing time, and the chance to share our voices in a safe and compassionate space.
Enjoy this short collection of poems from three of the poets from Corie’s most recent Bodylove workshop. Then continue on to learn more and register for the next workshop!
the lung poem by julianne serpa
in my lungs lives residue of incense mixed with morning dew hints of singe from campfires gone awry throat raw from late night laughs and chats in my lungs lives remnants of horse dander, hay, weathered leather echos of all the i love yous lingering notes from your cologne, which, on second thought i’m glad you overdo it your essence keeping me company when i’m home alone in my lungs lives pranayam with the power to leave me overwrought yoga yet to be taught battles yet to be fought i know why the ribs form a cage to contain me one breath to the next sticky cobwebs of a pained past stuck up high in shadowed corners clear, now sublime grace opens the door to newfound space in the in between place of my heart and my lungs when my heart swells, my words get caught / waiting to emerge, my own sweet love song
Julianne Serpa embodies a philosophy of “Choose Your Own Adventure,” both on the mat and in life, and endeavors to impart this spirit to her yoga students. She's a native Marylander, a budding poet, and a third-generation dachshund enthusiast. You can find her posting yoga memes on Instagram @sapperspirit and sharing stories and poetry from her spiritual journey that are introspective, moderately irreverent, and mildly sappy.
